The Hottest Neighborhoods to Look for a Home in Durham

Durham is an exciting place to be right now. Downtown has seen a renaissance in recent years as old tobacco warehouses have gotten designer makeovers, a thriving local food scene has blossomed, and entrepreneurs have set up headquarters in trendy communal spaces. More people are buying houses in Durham to be a part of the young, hip scene, to start families, or to pursue job opportunities at one of the many major companies in the area.

Real estate in Durham is as diverse as the people who live in it. Some neighborhoods are in hot demand right now, representing the best opportunities for real estate investing. Here are the hottest neighborhoods to look for a home in Durham right now:

Woodcroft is nestled between Fayetteville Road and N.C. 751 where they meet Highway 54. The neighborhood is a two-minute drive from Southpoint Mall and dozens of other shops, restaurants and professional services. Yet the neighborhood is tucked away out of the hustle and bustle.

Woodcroft includes a mix of single-family homes, townhomes, and condos. There is a higher percentage of families in Woodcroft compared to the rest of Durham.

This neighborhood is only expected to grow in prominence as revitalization in Durham continues along the Fayetteville corridor and a proposed east-west connector is built.

Trinity Park

Trinity Park is one of the most popular neighborhoods in Durham. It is located in a popular part of Durham -- right between downtown and Duke's east campus -- and it is full of homes with historic significance and character. In fact, Trinity Park is on the National Register of Historic Districts.

Trinity Park is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Durham, and it includes large, stately homes with many of their original features. Real estate in Trinity Park is some of the priciest in Durham, but it is only expected to continue increasing. Like a fine wine, the neighborhood is only getting better with age.

The Watts-Hillandale neighborhood is bordered by Club Boulevard, which features an array of charming, historic homes. The houses throughout the neighborhood were all built around the turn of the 20th century, and the streets are lined by stately hardwoods. Oval Park sits in the middle of the neighborhood.

Besides its beautiful, attractive housing, the Watts-Hillandale neighborhood is also popular because of its schools. For example, it is in the walk zone for the highly popular Watts Montessori Magnet School.

Rockwood is located in southwest Durham near University Drive, Hope Valley Road and West Cornwallis Road. It doesn't have the excitement of being near downtown or near a lot of other developments, but it is popular for being a quiet, safe place to raise a family. The neighborhood has great schools, and there are quality homes at affordable prices.

Working with a great realtor can help you find the best neighborhoods to buy homes in Durham based not just on what will be a good investment, but also on what suits your personality and the needs of your family. Call us today to start your search for homes in Durham in these or other great neighborhoods.
